Waste Framework Directive: textiles and food waste

The draft law amends the Waste Framework Directive to update rules on waste, including textiles and food waste. Amending Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 as regards obligations of economic operators concerning battery due diligence policies

Parliament adopted its position on a proposed law that would amend EU rules on battery due diligence policies for economic operators. The position takes over the Commission's proposal, meaning Parliament agrees with the proposed changes. Parliament asks the Commission to refer the matter back if it makes substantial changes, and will forward its position to the Council, Commission, and national parliaments.

Deforestation Regulation - list of countries presenting a low or high risk

Parliament objected to the Commission's list of countries with low or high deforestation risk for products sold in the EU, arguing the data is outdated and the method flawed. The objection was adopted, so the Commission measure is blocked and cannot take effect. Parliament calls for a more accurate, transparent and flexible risk classification, including a possible fourth 'negligible risk' category.
