Implementation into Union law of measures adopted by regional fisheries management organisations

The Commission proposed a regulation to update several EU laws that apply conservation, management and control measures in the convention areas of six regional fisheries management organisations, and to bring rules agreed multilaterally between 2018 and 2024 into EU law. Parliament adopted its position at first reading on this proposal, which sets out its stance for the negotiations with the Council before the law can be final. The committee report includes amendments that add recommendations adopted until 2024 that were missing from the Commission proposal, and the rapporteur asks the Commission to engage with Parliament before future transposition proposals.

Strengthening the security of identity cards of Union citizens and of residence documents issued to Union citizens and their family members exercising their right of free movement

Parliament adopted its position on a proposal to strengthen security of identity cards and residence documents for EU citizens and their families. Protocol on the Implementation of the Fisheries Partnership Agreement between the European Community and the Republic of Guinea-Bissau (2024-2029)

Parliament gave its consent to the EU's conclusion of a new protocol to the fisheries agreement with Guinea-Bissau for 2024-2029. The protocol lets EU vessels fish for tuna, cephalopods, shrimps and demersal species in Guinea-Bissau waters. Conclusion, on behalf of the Union, of the Protocol (2024-2029) implementing the Fisheries Partnership Agreement between the European Community and the Republic of Cabo Verde

Parliament gave its consent to the EU's conclusion of a five-year protocol to the fisheries partnership agreement with Cabo Verde, allowing EU vessels to fish tuna and related species in Cabo Verde's waters. In return, the EU will pay Cabo Verde an annual financial contribution of 780,000 euros, partly for access to fishing resources and partly to support the development of Cabo Verde's fisheries sector. The protocol aims to promote sustainable fisheries management, decent working conditions, and the fight against illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing.

Amendment of the EIB’s Statute

The European Parliament approved the proposal to amend the Statute of the European Investment Bank (EIB), which aims to remove the statutory lending limit and replace the maximum 250% gearing ratio with a unanimous decision by the Board of Governors. This decision means Parliament supports the change, allowing the EIB's governing bodies full authority over risk and leverage metrics, and it calls on the Council to notify Parliament if it departs from the approved text. Parliament also asks the Council to consult it again if it intends to substantially amend the text, and it will forward its position to the Council, the Commission, the EIB, and national parliaments.
