5. Conservation and sustainable use of marine biological diversity of areas beyond national jurisdiction

   Parliament adopted its position on a proposed EU law to conserve and sustainably use marine biodiversity in ocean areas beyond national jurisdiction. The law would implement an international agreement protecting high seas ecosystems, which cover nearly two thirds of the world's oceans. Parliament's position includes amendments to align the text closely with that agreement, covering environmental assessments and area-based management tools. The Council and Commission will now consider Parliament's position before the law can be finalised.

7. Key objectives for the CITES COP20 meeting in Uzbekistan

10. Termination of the Voluntary Partnership Agreement between the European Union and the Republic of Cameroon on forest law enforcement governance and trade in timber and derived products to the Union

    The European Parliament gave its consent to the termination of the Voluntary Partnership Agreement between the EU and Cameroon on forest law enforcement, governance and trade in timber and derived products. This means the agreement, which entered into force in 2011 and was tacitly renewable, will expire on 30 November 2025. Parliament's consent follows the Council's request and the committee's recommendation, and its position will be forwarded to the Council, the Commission, and the governments and parliaments of member states and Cameroon.

11. Termination of the Voluntary Partnership Agreement between the European Union and the Republic of Cameroon on forest law enforcement governance and trade in timber and derived products to the Union.

    Parliament adopted a resolution backing the termination of the EU-Cameroon Voluntary Partnership Agreement on forest law enforcement, governance and trade in timber. The agreement, in force since 2011, aimed to ensure all Cameroonian timber exports to the EU are legal, but Cameroon has not fully set up the required legality assurance system. Parliament's position supports ending the agreement, as Cameroon has not met its obligations and forest governance has worsened.
