Parliament adopted a resolution on the role of social, economic and environmental standards in safeguarding fair competition for all aquatic food products and improving food security. The text sets out Parliament's position that aquatic food products entering the EU should meet the same or equivalent standards required of EU fishers and producers, to avoid unfair competition and artificially lowered prices. It also calls for stronger customs controls in ports and airports, full use of the eCatch system for traceability, and registration of all imports of fisheries products from non-cooperative countries. Parliament asks for a stamp assuring equivalent conditions to European Quality Schemes for imported products, and for greater autonomy for the outermost regions in the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund, including re-establishing POSEI – Fisheries.

The committee report includes amendments that add recommendations adopted until 2024 that were missing from the Commission proposal, and the rapporteur asks the Commission to engage with Parliament before future transposition proposals.

- General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM): fishing in the GFCM Agreement area
Parliament is considering a proposal to amend an existing European Union regulation on certain provisions for fishing in the area covered by the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) Agreement. Parliament adopted its position on this law at first reading, which sets out where MEPs stand before agreement with the Council. Parliament also calls on the Commission to refer the matter to it again if the Commission replaces or substantially amends its proposal, and instructs its President to forward Parliament's position to the Council, the Commission and the national parliaments.
