  1. Protection of workers from the risks related to exposure to carcinogens, mutagens or reprotoxic substances at work

Parliament adopted its first-reading position on a proposal to amend Directive 2004/37/EC by adding substances and setting limit values in its Annexes I, III and IIIa. The text supports the sixth revision of the carcinogens and mutagens directive, which extends protection to workers in sectors such as manufacturing, construction, healthcare, emergency services, waste management and the circular economy. It includes binding occupational exposure limit values for cobalt and inorganic cobalt compounds, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, isoprene and 1,4-dioxane, and covers welding fumes containing carcinogenic, mutagenic or reprotoxic substances. Parliament calls on the Commission to refer the matter to it again if the proposal is replaced or substantially amended, and instructs its President to forward its position to the Council, the Commission and national parliaments.

  1. Amendments to the International Health Regulations contained in the Annex to Resolution WHA77.17 and adopted on 1 June 2024

Parliament gave its consent to the Council decision inviting member states to accept, in the interest of the European Union, amendments to the International Health Regulations (2005). The amendments, adopted on 1 June 2024, introduce a "pandemic emergency" as the highest global alert level and issue non-binding Temporary Recommendations to guide countries. They also strengthen cooperation and set up a coordinating financial mechanism for building core capacities.
