Deforestation Regulation - list of countries presenting a low or high risk

Parliament objected to the Commission's list of countries with low or high deforestation risk for products sold in the EU, arguing the data is outdated and the method flawed. Termination of the Voluntary Partnership Agreement between the European Union and the Republic of Cameroon on forest law enforcement governance and trade in timber and derived products to the Union

The European Parliament gave its consent to the termination of the Voluntary Partnership Agreement between the EU and Cameroon on forest law enforcement, governance and trade in timber and derived products. This means the agreement, which entered into force in 2011 and was tacitly renewable, will expire on 30 November 2025. Parliament's consent follows the Council's request and the committee's recommendation, and its position will be forwarded to the Council, the Commission, and the governments and parliaments of member states and Cameroon.

Maximum residue levels for carbendazim and thiophanate-methyl

Parliament objected to a Commission regulation that would have kept import tolerance levels for two pesticides, carbendazim and thiophanate-methyl, on certain imported products. The objection was adopted, so the Commission measure is blocked and those maximum residue levels will not be maintained. Parliament argues the substances are harmful and that keeping the levels would put EU farmers at a disadvantage.

Maximum residue levels for cyproconazole

The Parliament objected to a Commission regulation that would have kept maximum residue levels for the pesticide cyproconazole in certain imported foods above the default safety limit. The objection was adopted, so the Commission measure is blocked and the proposed residue levels will not take effect. Parliament argues the substance is toxic and its authorisation has expired, so residues should be set at the default value.
