20. Urges the Commission to use and further develop intersectionality as a cross-cutting principle in the new Gender Equality Strategy;

Urges the Commission to formally integrate and further develop intersectionality in all EU policies and actions, ensuring its application in all legislative and non-legislative proposals, funding programmes and impact assessments; calls for the inclusion of a binding commitment to apply intersectional analysis across all EU policies and initiatives, in line with the Charter of Fundamental Rights and relevant EU anti-discrimination directives; recognises that gender-based discrimination cannot be fully addressed without considering the compounded disadvantages that individuals face due to other factors, such as race, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity and sex characteristics; notes that intersectionality is already embedded within EU law, particularly in Directive 2000/43/EC on race equality, Directive 2000/78/EC on employment equality and Directive 2019/11581a on work-life balance; highlights that the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union guarantees intersectionality and that recent case-law from the Court of Justice of the European Union has further solidified the interpretation of these grounds within the EU legal framework1b; calls on the Commission to ensure the right to a life free from discrimination as a key principle in the Gender Equality Strategy;
