| 37a. Highlights that, according to a study commissioned by Greenpeace, oil companies generated estimated excess profits of EUR 81,4 million per day across the Union during the first three weeks of March 2026, including EUR 11,6 million per day in France, through increased margins on petrol and diesel sales; notes that TotalEnergies reported net income of USD 11,2 billion in the first half of 2026, an increase of 72 % compared with the same period in 2025, amid higher oil prices and increased refining margins; recalls that six Member States have called for a windfall tax on energy companies; takes note of the announcement on 9 October 2026 of a working group involving the Commission and Member States to examine such taxation; stresses that these discussions must urgently lead to concrete legislative action; calls on the Commission, therefore, to submit without delay a proposal for a permanent mechanism to tax the windfall profits of multinational enterprises in all sectors, especially the energy sector; |
