(o) work towards achieving a permanent seat for the EU in the UNSC, in addition to the seat already held by France, in the context of a future consensual reform of that body; work towards achieving a permanent seat for the EU in every multilateral forum to cement the EU’s role as an interlocutor with third countries;

(o) underline that the EU is not eligible to hold a seat as a permanent member of the UN Security Council;

(v) recall the responsibility of the UNSC, particularly its permanent members, to uphold international peace and security and ensure accountability for violations of international law, refraining from double standards and a selective application of international rules; explore ways to strengthen the UNGA’s role in this area, through innovative and democratic voting systems whereby a UNGA qualified majority can overcome a UNSC veto deadlock in line with the United for Peace doctrine;

(v) recall the responsibility of the UNSC, particularly its permanent members, to uphold international peace and security and ensure accountability for violations of international law, refraining from double standards and a selective application of international rules; explore ways to strengthen the UNGA’s consultative role in this area; recall that the right of veto is an essential guarantee of the balance between sovereign states within the UN Security Council and must therefore be preserved;
