Parliament adopted a recommendation to the Council, the Commission and the High Representative on EU-China political relations, covering trade, human rights, Taiwan, Hong Kong and China's support for Russia. By adopting the text, Parliament set out its official position on how the EU should handle its relationship with China, describing Beijing as a partner, a competitor and a systemic rival at once. The text calls for a clear, united and realistic EU line on China, based on internal resilience and on cooperation only where it serves EU interests.
Before the final vote, MEPs decided on 38 amendments (12 adopted, 26 rejected) and 39 parts of the text voted on separately (13 adopted, 26 rejected).
