Parliament adopted a resolution addressing transnational repression, which it defines as cross-border attacks by states or their proxies to coerce, control or silence dissidents, journalists and human rights defenders. The text condemns such repression and calls for a common legal framework and stronger EU and member state protection for defenders, including through digital platform regulation and sanctions. Parliament asks the EU to integrate this issue into foreign policy, update guidelines, and improve data collection and monitoring.
Before the final vote, MEPs decided on 1 amendment (1 adopted) and 9 parts of the text voted on separately (3 adopted, 6 rejected).
