Parliament adopted a resolution on media freedom in Georgia, focusing on the case of journalist Mzia Amaglobeli, who has been in pre-trial detention since January 2025 and faces a prison sentence of four to seven years. The resolution calls for her immediate and unconditional release, dropping of all charges, and an impartial investigation into her detention and ill-treatment. It also demands the release of other detained demonstrators, media representatives, and opposition leaders, and urges an end to political persecution. Parliament calls on the EU and member states to impose personal sanctions on Georgian officials responsible for democratic backsliding, and to limit diplomatic engagement until credible democratic reforms and new elections occur.
