Parliament adopted a resolution on the case of Jean-Jacques Wondo, a Belgian-Congolese civilian sentenced to death in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). It deplores the reinstatement of the death penalty, the military court ruling over civilians, and the lack of a fair trial, and urges the DRC to halt executions and reform its judicial system. Parliament also calls for ensuring Wondo's access to medical care and for the Belgian authorities and the European External Action Service to step up efforts for a fair trial.
Before the final vote, MEPs decided on 3 amendments (3 rejected) and 1 part of the text voted on separately (1 rejected). 7 alternative motions lapsed once the text was adopted.
