Recalls recent resolution 79/98 of the UN General Assembly’s Special Political and Decolonization Committee (Fourth Committee) of 4 December 2024, which states that the question of Western Sahara remains a decolonisation issue; urges the Council and the Member States to support the process initiated by UN Security Council Resolution 1754 (2007) of 30 April 2007 with a view to achieving a just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution that provides for the self-determination of the people of Western Sahara;

Reiterates its strong condemnation of the 2011 NATO-led intervention in Libya, which it considers to have significantly contributed to enduring instability, insecurity and humanitarian suffering in the region; recalls that Mediterranean EU Member States have been disproportionately affected by the pressures resulting from destabilisation in the region; condemns the EU’s policy towards Libya, including its support for the Libyan coastguard, which is responsible for violations of human rights and continuous pushbacks;

30. Stresses the importance of strengthening the parliamentary dimension of the Africa-Europe partnership; calls for the organisation of a pre-summit meeting between Members of the European Parliament and members of the Pan-African Parliament to ensure that the voices of elected representatives from both continents help shape the agenda, priorities and outcomes of the upcoming EU-AU summit; underlines that such dialogue would enhance democratic legitimacy, foster mutual understanding and ensure that the summit’s conclusions reflect the concerns and aspirations of citizens across Africa and Europe; stresses also the importance of the meaningful engagement of civil society in the partnership and at summits;

30.
