5. Notes with grave concern that 1 300 human rights defenders, journalists and other public figures who have supported the development of democracy in Afghanistan over the last decade, are still waiting in Pakistan to be admitted to European Member States after having been provided with documentation that allowed for temporary status in Pakistan, while their asylum request is processed; expresses deep concern about the ongoing deportations that are now also targeting these groups; calls on the EU Member States to make efforts to urgently expedite processing of applications from Afghans in need of safety and protection, especially for those at risk of deportation;	5. Notes with grave concern that 1 300 human rights defenders, journalists and other public figures who have supported the development of democracy in Afghanistan over the last decade, are still waiting in Pakistan to be admitted to European Member States after having been provided with documentation that allowed for temporary status in Pakistan, while their asylum request is processed; expresses deep concern about the ongoing deportations that are now also targeting these groups; calls on the EU Member States to make efforts to urgently expedite processing of asylum applications from Afghans in need of safety and protection, especially for those at risk of deportation; recalls that Afghanistan is not a safe third country; calls, therefore, for an immediate halt to any deportations from EU countries to Afghanistan; condemns direct talks concerning deportations between the Taliban regime and European governments; condemns the systematic pushbacks that Afghans face at the EU’s external borders; calls on the Member States to establish and facilitate safe and legal pathways for Afghans at risk, including by increasing resettlement quotas, issuing humanitarian visas and easing family reunification, particularly for women and girls; calls on the Member States to support the application of the Temporary Protection Directive for Afghans seeking international protection and to grant international protection to Afghan women and girls on the grounds of gender-based persecution;
