Subject: 2024 UN Climate Change Conference in Baku, Azerbaijan (COP29)
In order to ensure that the outcome of the UN Climate Change Conference in Baku (COP29) significantly advances the agenda in terms of mitigation, adaptation, finance, and loss and damage, the EU must enhance its climate diplomacy and lead by example.
What action is the Commission taking to ensure that COP29 concludes with significant progress on:
– setting the new collective quantified goal on climate finance;
– building resilience and enhancing adaptation, including by advancing on the global goal on adaptation and developing national adaptation plans by the end of 2025;
– raising the collective ambition as regards nationally determined contributions, in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement and the outcome of the first global stocktake;
– laying down robust rules for cooperative mechanisms under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement?
