| Ba. whereas law enforcement officers and border and coast guard personnel in several Member States are increasingly exposed to highly dangerous situations when confronting organised criminal networks engaged in drug trafficking, including deliberate attempts by high-powered vessels to ram, seriously injure or otherwise endanger officers during interception and pursuit operations; whereas the protection of officers requires clear and effective national legal frameworks governing the use of force, enabling them to respond swiftly to serious threats to their life or physical integrity; whereas protecting officers and reducing such risks to a minimum should be a priority; |

Deeply regrets the deaths of Guardia Civil officers David Pérez Carracedo and Miguel Ángel González Gómez, who were killed in the line of duty in Barbate, Cádiz, on 9 February 2024 when their patrol vessel was deliberately rammed by drug traffickers using a high-powered vessel; pays tribute to their courage, dedication and ultimate sacrifice in the service of Spain and the protection of its citizens; regrets that law enforcement officers are forced to confront organised criminal groups while lacking the means, resources and legal protection necessary to defend their own lives and those of others; |
