	Ca. whereas on 8 May 2026, two officers of the Guardia Civil Maritime Service lost their lives, and two others were injured, while pursuing a narco-boat off the coast of Huelva, Spain; whereas this tragedy follows the deaths of two Guardia Civil officers on 9 February 2024 when their vessel was rammed by a narco-boat in the port of Barbate; whereas in 2024, Spain seized 124 tonnes of cocaine, more than any other Member State and accounting for over a third of all cocaine seized in the EU that year; whereas in April 2026, the Guardia Civil seized more than 30 tonnes of cocaine in a single operation at sea; whereas criminal networks are increasingly relying on go-fast boats, at-sea transfers, semi-submersibles and drones, and are resorting more frequently to violence;

	1a. Pays tribute to the Guardia Civil officers who lost their lives off the coast of Huelva and in Barbate, and expresses its sincere condolences to their families and colleagues; stresses that police and Guardia Civil officers on the front line against drug trafficking must have the necessary vessels, equipment, training, staff and legal protection to carry out their missions safely; calls on the Member States to reflect the high-risk nature of this work in the professional status and social protection of these officers; calls on the Commission to swiftly implement the commitment in the EU action plan against drug trafficking to tackle the misuse of go-fast boats, including through common rules on their manufacture, sale, registration and use, and on the illegal supply of fuel to such boats at sea;

Stresses that Spain’s southern maritime border represents an external border of the entire EU and that the fight against drug trafficking at this border is a shared European responsibility; calls for the swift implementation of the EU drugs strategy and the EU action plan against drug trafficking; calls for Europol, Frontex and Eurojust to provide stronger operational support to the most exposed Member States; calls for the expansion of MAOC-N operations in the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, for the reinforcement of the European Ports Alliance, for closer operational cooperation with countries of origin and transit, and for increased EU funding for maritime surveillance and interception capacities;
