Notes with concern that the transport sector is the only sector in which emissions have risen at EU level since 1990 and that a more substantial reduction will be needed to meet the EU’s climate goals; stresses the importance of further measures to support the electrification of road transport as a way of reducing road transport emissions, in conjunction with further measures supporting the modal shift, intermodal transport and public transport in general; calls on the Commission to include emissions from international transport in NDCs; is concerned by the fact that the Commission’s 2025 NECP assessment report showed that some Member States still have support schemes for fossil-fuel powered vehicles and calls on those Member States to phase them out; | 78. Draws attention to the growing crisis in the EU automotive sector, marked by excessive regulatory pressure, declining competitiveness, job losses and limited consumer demand for electric vehicles due to high prices and insufficient infrastructure; stresses that many EU citizens, particularly those in rural or low-income areas, are increasingly affected by transport exclusion and cannot afford to transition to costly alternatives; calls on the Commission to immediately stop policies that are destroying the EU automotive industry and, in close cooperation with the Member States, take urgent measures to restore its global competitiveness and rebuild the EU’s industrial strength; |
