European Parliament resolution on the declaration of principles for a gender-equal society

The European Parliament,
– having regard to the Commission communication of 7 March 2025 entitled ‘A Roadmap for Women’s Rights’ (COM(2025)0097) and its annex entitled ‘Declaration of principles for a gender-equal society’,
– having regard to the question to the Commission on the declaration of principles for a gender-equal society (O-000024/2025 – B10-XXXX/2025),
– having regard to Rules 142(5) and 136(2) of its Rules of Procedure,
– having regard to the motion for a resolution of the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality,
A. whereas gender equality is a core value of the EU and the right to equal treatment is a fundamental right recognised in the Treaty on European Union, the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union and in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, and are essential for the EU’s further development;
B. whereas the European Parliament is fully committed to prohibiting discrimination and to promoting equality in the EU’s legislation and policies;
C. whereas the Commission invites all interested parties, especially the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union, social partners, civil society actors and other relevant organisations, to endorse the declaration on women’s rights annexed to its communication of 7 March 2025 over the course of the year;
1. Reiterates and reaffirms its commitment to women’s rights and gender equality;
2. Welcomes the Commission communication of 7 March 2025 and considers it to be a good basis for the preparation of the upcoming gender equality strategy;
3. Calls on the Commission to take the position of Parliament to be expressed in its upcoming resolution on the gender equality strategy 2025 into due account when developing the new post-2025 gender equality strategy;
4. Endorses the principles included in the declaration annexed to the Commission communication of 7 March 2025;
5. Instructs its President to forward this resolution to the Commission.
