Recalls that while EU membership is Serbia’s stated strategic goal, public opinion is deeply split; notes that according to a special Eurobarometer survey published in September 2025, only 33 % of Serbian citizens support EU accession, and only 38 % of Serbian citizens have a positive view of the EU; notes that exploitation of the country’s natural resources, youth drain, emigration and loss of cultural identity and traditional values are among the top perceived concerns regarding EU membership;

Notes that the Serbian people made a clear choice regarding the composition of their government in the parliamentary elections of December 2023; notes that in March 2026, local elections were held in different municipalities; calls for the EU to respect the democratic choice of the Serbian people and to avoid drawing stark contrasts between the different parties; warns that by supporting efforts to overturn a legitimate election result because of dissatisfaction with the outcome, the EU is undermining democracy in Serbia and fuelling polarisation and instability;
