Notes the progressive expansion of Europol’s mandate, including recently adopted and proposed measures conferring enhanced capacities to combat serious and organised crime, such as migrant smuggling, trafficking of human beings, cybercrime and terrorism; recalls that these developments encompass, inter alia, strengthened cooperation with private actors through direct data exchanges, reinforced large-scale data analysis capabilities, and upgraded operational assistance to Member States via specialised support teams; emphasises that the effective implementation of those additional tasks requires a corresponding increase in Europol’s human resources, but also robust internal safeguards, sufficient compliance capacity and strengthened supervisory mechanisms; observes, that Europol’s budget increased by 5,78 % in 2024 compared to 2023; urges that Europol’s budget be further reinforced in order to address persistent staffing shortages and to ensure that its financial resources are commensurate with its expanding responsibilities; stresses Europol’s key role in combating migrant smuggling, trafficking in human beings, cross-border crime and terrorism; underlines that Frontex should focus on core operations; and welcomes Frontex’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its Fundamental Rights Officer; | 33.
