54a. Takes note of the public statements made by the current President of the EIB in which she acknowledged having exerted pressure on the Spanish National Statistics Institute in relation to the presentation of economic growth data in her previous capacity as Minister of Economy, Trade and Enterprise of the Kingdom of Spain; considers that any such interference in the work of an independent statistical body constitutes a serious breach of the principles of institutional independence, integrity and reliability of official statistics; warns that such conduct, if replicated in the context of the EIB, would undermine confidence in the EIB’s governance, decision-making and credibility; stresses, therefore, the need to ensure that the highest standards of independence and impartiality are upheld at all times; calls, in this regard, for a reassessment of the suitability of the current EIB President;
