Stresses that EU-supported housing initiatives should promote architectural quality, durability and consistency with local contexts while fully respecting the principle of subsidiarity and the primary responsibility of Member States over housing policy and their freedom to choose the style; encourages the use of traditional crafts and local materials, and warns against uniform design standards, which risk undermining architectural diversity and regional as well as local identity or impose excessively onerous technical requirements or generalised renovation obligations that could negatively affect property values and private investment; supports regionally adapted construction standards and locally certified materials as tools to reduce construction costs, strengthen local economies and improve housing availability, particularly in outermost regions and remote territories; calls on the Commission and Member States to ensure that EU funding frameworks allow sufficient flexibility to reflect regional architectural and weather-related conditions; emphasises that such considerations should not introduce additional administrative or regulatory requirements that would increase costs or slow down the construction of new affordable housing, which remains the primary objective in addressing the current housing crisis; |
