Notes the Commission’s proposal for the taxation of large multinational corporations (the 'CORE tax'); regrets that this proposal is largely insufficient to ensure genuine corporate contribution to European public finances, as even the Commissioner for Budget, Anti-Fraud and Public Administration, Mr. Serafin, acknowledged that “it will only affect the very largest companies on a level comparable to a typical annual bonus of the CEO in such a company”; notes that the proposed contribution will amount to a maximum of 0,1 % of turnover and, most strikingly, will be capped at €750,000, irrespective of the size of the corporate group; observes that, for example, TotalEnergies would therefore pay a tax of €750,000, representing a mere 0,000567 % of its EU turnover, highlighting the inadequacy of the measure; deplores that certain Member States, including France, have opposed this CORE tax; calls on the Commission to substantially revise its CORE tax proposal to ensure meaningful and proportionate contributions from large corporations according to their real economic presence and profits within the Union. |
