	4a. Emphasises that petitioners have the right to be informed in a transparent manner about the applicable rules and conditions for reimbursement of expenses for attending meetings of the Committee on Petitions in person; recalls that the participation of petitioners in those committee meetings is governed by Article 9 of the Bureau Decision of 24 June 2024 laying down rules on public hearings and stating that the only requirement for the petitioner is that their place of origin is inside the Union; draws attention to the fact that a number of petitioners have been required to provide information on their financial situation as a condition to be able to present their petitions to the committee and be reimbursed; reiterates the importance of delivering on petitioners’ expectations regarding their equal treatment and the protection of their right to present their petitions to the committee and be reimbursed for expenses in line with Article 9 above, regardless of their financial situation and respecting the applicable rules, including those related to non-disclosure of sensitive personal data unless there is a lawful basis; stresses that the provision of such financial assistance is meant to remove existing barriers, ensure transparency, increase fairness and guarantee that the right to petition can be exercised;

Recalls the petitions submitted in relation to the tragic train accident in Tempi, Greece, which raised serious concerns regarding rail safety, infrastructure management, accountability in transport operations for civil servants and members of the government, the rule of law, and the misuse of EU funds; calls on the Commission and national authorities to assess systemic shortcomings in railway oversight and proper allocation of EU resources, ensure full transparency in investigations and strengthen EU-level safety standards; calls for the inclusion of petitioner feedback in policy debates on cross-border rail infrastructure, whistleblower protection, and accountability in transport governance;
