Paragraph 22 e (new)
Motion for a resolution
Amendment
22e. Underlines that the Commission needs to take further timely actions to increase the EU’s own resources and to fight tax avoidance; recalls that, according to the EU Tax Observatory, multinational corporations (MNEs) booked USD 1 trillion in profits in tax havens in 2022 – half of which were in tax havens in the EU; calls, therefore, on the Commission and the Member States to collect the tax deficit of MNEs – that is the difference between what a corporation pays in taxes globally and what that corporation would have to pay if all its profits were subject to a minimum tax rate of 25 % in each of the countries where it operates;

Amendment
25a. Underlines that the salaries and benefits received by Commissioners, MEPs and the President of the European Council are very generous; is concerned that these disproportionately high salaries completely alienate them from people’s everyday lives, needs and struggles; considers, therefore, that allocating them more reasonable salaries and benefits would increase the chance of the 2026 budget proposals being more in line with working people’s needs;
